Essential Learning Targets

Students are assessed according to 21st Century Skills Essential Learning Targets, particularly:

Creativity: Students will be able to participate positively in the design of creative solutions to meet human needs and wants.
Communication: Students will understand the attributes and techniques that positively impact construction and conveying meaning for a variety of purposes and through a variety of modes.
Problem Solving: Students will be able to select and apply a process of problem-solving to deepen understanding and determine whether redefining the goal is a better way of addressing a problem situation and continuing to consider other alternative solutions until one resonates as the best one.
Critical Thinking: Students will be skilled at using complex reasoning processes to make meaning.

Ms. Blakemore, the Teacher Librarian at Mahoney, has designed the 6th grade Digital Literacy course for 2021-2022. She will be teaching the lessons and assessing student work.

Course Details

Class Expectations

  • Students should arrive to Digital Literacy class with their charged iPad and a writing utensil.
  • All our class work and projects will be done during class time.
  • Students will have the opportunity to work on inquiry-driven projects of their own design and on topics of interest.
  • Participation during class is very important for our Digital Literacy class. Students will be expected to share their learning and work with peers.
  • Class work and projects will be explained in class and posted in Google Classroom.

Assessment and Grades

  • Students are assessed according to 21st Century Skills Essential Learning Targets, particularly Communication, Problem Solving, and Critical Thinking.
  • Students should expect at least one Habits of Work grade per week.
