Vocabulary

Attribute : to give credit to a creator or author

Collage : A piece of artwork made by piecing together different materials, including photos, images, or other artwork

Copyright : the legal right to be the only one to reproduce, publish, and sell a book, musical recording, etc., for a certain period of time

Creative Commonsan American non-profit organization and international network devoted to educational access and expanding the range of creative works available for others to build upon legally and to share.

Fair Use : a principle that parts of copyrighted materials may be used without permission of the copyright owner when the use is fair and reasonable, does not substantially impair the value of the materials, and does not curtail the profits reasonably expected by the owner

Intellectual Property : something (such as an idea, invention, or process) that comes from a person's mind

Paraphrase : to write something that someone else has said or written using different words

Plagiarism : the act of using another person's words or ideas without giving credit to that person

Public Domain : the state of something that is not owned by a particular person or company and is available for anyone to use

Sampling : Reworking a portion of a song or sound recording into a new composition
